As we look out at our polarized social and political landscape, calls to "cancel" others who do not share our views, combined with a pervasive lack of charity toward those with whom we may disagree, seem to be on the rise. How, in light of this, might the idea of "mercy" provide a valuable framework for rethinking how we relate to the "other," whoever that other might be for us?
