Beethoven knows something about the human soul. He knows how to communicate to us in an extremely dramatic and effective way.
Beethoven, in his essence, portrays a universal struggle – the human need for redemptive peace that is brought to the fore by nothing less than hardship and suffering.
My hope is that we might allow ourselves to suffer – to know what that means – because, in suffering, we will also know what it means to experience peace. And that transcendent peace can only be provided by the one who conquered suffering all the way around: Jesus Christ.
